Job Type: Temporary Scheduled Hours: 40 Work Shift: Day (United States of America) Job Summary: Reports to: Practice Manager or Ambulatory Practice Coordinator with input from assigned physician(s), nurses or other health care providers. Responsible for delivering the highest quality service to patients while contributing to the smooth functioning of practice operations. Job Description: The co-op intern will be employed through Beth Israel Deaconess HealthCare, our staffing affiliate. This adult primary care concierge practice is looking for a candidate to assist with the varied administrative and clinical needs of a small, and often medically complex, adult patient population. The ideal candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills, a passion for patient care, a desire to develop critical thinking skills, and an interest in developing longitudinal professional relationships with patients. Adaptability to assist in all aspects of the practice is desired. The staff and physician will provide on the job training and close supervision. Clinical tasks may include but are not limited to: Greet and triage patients. Obtain and record vital signs. Medication review. Possible opportunity to perform phlebotomy and vaccinations. Prior training is preferred, but not required. Note preparation for the physician. The co-op student will learn about a variety of specialties by reviewing provider notes and extrapolating relevant clinical information to create a concise patient history to assist the physician with patient visits. Obtain a brief history from patient and record in the electronic medical record. Assist staff and physician with charting and note preparation. Scribing for Dr. London. Facilitate the ordering of tests. Assist with office testing including EKG, spirometry and basic laboratory testing. Assist the physician or staff with procedures. Maintain and stock exam rooms. Administrative and office tasks may include, but are not limited to: Answering the telephone and appropriately triaging medical and administrative calls. Manage office emails and fax inbox, and appropriately chart and triage the messages. Use of the electronic medical record for charting and filing. Collect and manage insurance information and co-pays. Scan documents; electronic filing. Assisting with prior approvals for medications and testing. Patient phone calls to remind about visits and to coordinate testing and specialty visits. Monitor receipt of test results. Possible opportunity to work in other concierge practices in Needham and Chestnut Hill. Possible scribing opportunity, depending upon competency with the electronic medical record and knowledge of ICD-10 coding. Medicare Chronic Care Management. This is a unique clinical and health care administration opportunity which allows the student to organize and implement Medicare’s Chronic Care Management Program (CCM) for the practice’s Medicare Job Description continued population. The student will be expected to organize and expedite monthly CCM wellness phone calls, assist patients with management of their preventative care plan, and document criteria for CCM billing. We expect the candidate to be team-oriented, patient-centered, self-motivated, organized and to have good time management skills. The co-op intern will be exposed to all aspects of private medical practice and get plenty of clinical and administrative mentorship.
